Giving hope at times of tragedy, whether to a colleague or to a nation, is so often overlooked, but the biggest weapon of a leader. I think the British PM exemplified that as I said on the BBC.

“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”
– Marcus Aurelius
“For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use to be anything else.”
– Winston Churchill
“”When you are asked if you can do a job, tell ’em, ‘Certainly I can!’ Then get busy and find out how to do it.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

See the BBC report for more...

“Relax. They’re not going to kill us. They’re going to TRY and kill us. And that is a very different thing..”
– Steve Voake
“To the question whether I am a pessimist or an optimist, I answer that my knowledge is pessimistic, but my willing and hoping are optimistic.”
– Albert Schweitzer

Back in 2016 the Guardian paper did a list of books to give you hope (in case the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita are not your thing):
